Hi guys,

I have a problem with my rig with terrible FPS on any game that I load and can't get to the bottom of it.

Spec:
Core 2 Q8200 (2.33)
ASUS P5Q3
8GB Ram
Sapphire HD 6670 1GB DDR5
Win 7 64bit
ATI Drivers: 12.10

Currently using Unigine and get between 8-19fps in DX9 mode regardless of settings, same again for DX10 but DX11 allows me about 22-29fps (not expecting miracles here) tops.

Can't understand why it would be this slow? Any ideas?

Solution
What about settings in the CC control panel? All the 3D game settings can have a huge difference on FPS between "performance" and "quality" settings.

In what respect? I've just ditched a Athlon 64/6800XT's that would pull 3x what I'm pulling now... Card is new as of 2 days ago... it SHOULD be more then capable of running anything in dx9 mode even with all the stuff on.

Like i said i can't see nothing wrong with the build, except, you expect much more performance for a really low-end card :

I can say that the q8200 may be bottlenecking you as well. If you are playing 64 player maps on bf3 then that may be part of the issue. But as others have said, your video card isn't the strongest out there and will not be capable of anything great. The best option as of right now would be to run benchmarks like sunius said. That will help you determine if it is the video card or not as the cpu will be a non factor.

Edit: I'm assuming your video drivers are up to date. If not, then update them. If they are, roll them back to a different version and see if things change.

I don't think it would be a huge bottleneck. The q8200 is a very capable cpu for most games, however, for games like bf3 it could get bottlenecked in certain situations on the 64 player maps. However, it is much more likely that the video card is responsible for the what he is experiencing. He could always try and OC the q8200 to see if there is any difference if he has not already. You never know, he could be able to squeeze out a few more frames.

The OP isn't talking about BF3 in 64 player maps though, just a simple GPU intensive benchmark.

Yeah it wasn't in the original post, but was mentioned on one of his later comments. That's what i was responding to....

For starters, forget Unigine. Lets have a look at what games you are currently playing. Are you getting the performance you expect in those games? if not, lets try to fix that rather than looking at Unigine, that benchmark is pretty unreliable and is flakey and driver dependent.

Hi again,

No I'm not for BF3 or anything mega in those areas, as it stands I'm only really looking to play TF2(HL2 Engine) and still only knock up about 10-17fps (1680x1050) with the same settings as that of another person on youtube.

This guy runs:

Half Life 2 AMD Radeon HD 6670 GDDR5 gameplay

*Specs

- Athlon II X2 250 (2x1 MB L2 cache)
- Foxconn A88GM mobo (710 SB)
- SATA600 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD
- Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 (128-bit)
- 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM
- 500W silent flow "No Name" PSU inside Codegen case
- W7 SP1 7601 64-bit

* GPU and GPU memory OCed by 5%

All settings maxed out, 1680x1050 resolution, 4XAA, 8XAF, v-sync off

FPS: avg 72 (engine capped at 72)

Recorded with FRAPS @ 30 FPS in 1280x720 resolution. FRAPS adds stutters and lag.

If I copy those settings I get 10-17fps we both have the same card and I have 8GB ram compared to his 4gb, perhaps the rest of my rig is worse then his but I was expecting atleast 30fps. Again as others have pointed out it might just be that its a really weak card and this is all I am able to run but still feel it could perform better.

Perhaps TF2 is different again to HL2 but I assume same engine etc, same results?

Hmm might my PSU be a little too weak for this?

I run 2x1TB Drives @RAID - 1 DVD Drive - Wireless USB Stick, 6670, Q8200.

Checked on Asus with their calculator says that id need about 400W, my PSU is a 400w but its only 21amp across 2 rails. Which would really be about 250watts or there abouts right?

Possible issue?
