Hello,

Im trying to dicide ifi have to buy a complete new system or to upgrade my current rig,

If id upgrade my pc it would look like this and would be done under 800€:

Motherboard:

Asus Rampage II gene
http://www.asus.com/ROG/RAMPAGE_II_GENE/

* Refer to www.asus.com for Intel CPU support list

6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Triple channel memory architecture

2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 support at dual x16 speed
1 x PCIe 2.0 x4
1 x PCI 2.2

Ram:

Kingston HyperX memory
• DDR3 1333MHz
• 240-Pin DIMM
• 3 x 2GB Module(s)
• 6GB Total Capacity
• 1333MHz CL7 7-7-7-20 @ 1.65V
• 1333MHz CL9 9-9-9 @ 1.5V
• Non-ECC Unbuffered
• Intel XMP Certified
• Heat Spreader
• Module Name: PC3-10600

New pieces:

Intel® Core™ i7-3770K
http://ark.intel.com/products/65523

MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GD5/OC
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N680GTX-Twin-Frozr-4GD5-...

if id made a new one it cost me around 1500€-2000€:

Intel® Core™ i7-3930K
http://ark.intel.com/nl/products/63697/Intel-Core-i7-39...

ASUS Rampage IV GENE
http://www.asus.com/ROG/RAMPAGE_IV_GENE/

MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr 4GD5/OC
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N680GTX-Twin-Frozr-4GD5-...

Corsair 12 GB DDR3-2000 Tri-Kit
http://www.corsair.com/en/memory-by-product-family/veng...

(missing components like drives etc arent important atm got nuff o those)

So my question to u is:

-Will the rampage II gene be good enough to support an i7 Ocd to 5.0ghz or will i be better off Ocing the 3930K since i heard its a los of money to get that cpu if ur not video editing

-Is the 6Gb 1333 Mhz ram nuff or do i really need to upgrade it to 2000Mhz

-At last, Wat can i best do upgrade or buy a full new pc since the components like the MB are 3 years old

Thanks for ur help in advance!

EDIT: the rampage II gene i have is 3 years old and has the X58 Chipset

Yeah that board is an OK choice but it's expensive and it's mATX.

No. If you plan to run an X79 system you won't be able to use triple channel RAM. You will need quad channel.

What is your country of origin and what store are you planning to buy from? If you don't know of one then check the link in my signature.

I live in belgium and im planning to buy the parts from www.alternate.be

My motherboard is actually the older rampage 2 Gene wich is an x58 chipset if im right
(maybe i didnt get ur answer right i ment the 1333mhz ram for the upgraded pc for a new i would take new ram)

I'm more in the dilemma of is it really worth the 800€ extra for a new motherboard ram and som other basic stuff or can i just upgrade my pc with the Intel® Core™ i7-3770K and a new 680gtx or would u recommend a new mobo ram and so on with it?

Yeah that should be fine. You will need a new motherboard no matter what CPU you buy as LGA 1366 CPUs are no longer manufactured and the new CPUs require a new socket.

Here is what I would suggest:

Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 - € 159, 90
CPU: 3.4GHz Intel Core i7-3770K - € 314, -
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo - € 29, 99
RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 1.5V - € 79, 90
SSD: 256GB OCZ Vector - € 239, 90
Video Card: Gigabyte Windforce 3X GTX 670 - € 439,00

Total: € 1.263,59

Are you going to reuse your existing case and power supply? If so what do you already have?

Damn i didnt see that they dont use the 1366 socket anymore for I7 cpus i knew that bout the 6core ones but all O.O

I think wat u wrote down theyre is a real good buy thank you for that,

Im probably re using my raptor 300 gb 10000Rpm hdd and my case getting some extra water cooling for Ocing my cpu and i got a 950watt corsair power supply

So exept for the Hdd i would come on 1000€ then thats a reasonable price :)

Yeah LGA 1366 hasn't been used for a long time (I think it was discontinued in 2010). Right now it's LGA 1155 and the six core CPUs use socket LGA 2011. That can be quite a bit more expensive.

You should definitely consider an SSD if you're doing video editing as that will cut down on the loading times. You really don't need water cooling as you can get a cheap air fan like the one I linked to and be fine.
