What is this for?

Hi so I just got a new power supply and I was wondering what this 4 pin is used for(the cord on the right of the pic),The cord comes from the power supply and is linked to a 4 pin molex.It looks a lot like the same cord a cpu fan. Does it connect to the motherboard so it I can see the temp of my motherboard?

And Also is it better to get a 3 pin fan that connects to the motherboard or a molex fan that connects to the power supply?

IIRC, that's a floppy disc drive power connector.

It's generally better to use fan headers on the motherboard, but if you don't mind your case fans running at 100% all the time, (or using a manual speed adjuster) using the PSU doesn't hurt anything.

OK thank you so much for the response.So if I plug the fan on the motherboard will it adjust the fans speed depending on my activity? like will it spin at a slow rate when i am just browsing the internet and speed up when im gaming?
