Try installing and playing that using 95/98 Compatibility mode.

To install a program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode, hold
down SHIFT as you insert the game CD, use My Computer to browse
to the setup program, and then skip down to step 1 in the list below:

To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

Of course, let's not forget to check for any patches or updates for that game.
A good place to find them is: www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

If you'd like to learn more information about compatibility mode, you can click the
link in the Compatibility tab that reads "Learn more about program compatibility",
or watch this Application Compatibility Power Point Presentation:

Jimmy or anyone else out there who can help - I am having the same problem
and have tried exactly what you have suggested, but, when I click on the
setup application to open it, it doesn't do anything. I also tried to set
the compatibility as per the Compatibility Wizard in the Help & Support
Center, but again, when it gets to the testing point in the instructions,
nothing happens. It's almost as if my CD player is disabled for the older
games (the newer ones load just fine and I have PLENTY of room to add them).
Any other suggestions?

Hi JoAnn,

I'll try to help, and others are welcome to participate as well. :)

What are the titles / manufacturers of the games you're installing?

Various. Actually I went to the WindowsXP Help Center and looked up problems
with autorun and found one thing - to delete the Roxio Easy CD Creator
Program I had installed (it was an old one anyway). After I uninstalled it,
I got the games to load, but when I click on Play, again, nothing happens.

One is Sim City 3000 Unlimited by Maxis and the other is Leap Ahead
Kindergarten by The Learning Company.

Thanks so much!

Hi JoAnn,

Looks like you've touched apron a couple of games that don't like XP.

SimCity might run if you use Compatibility mode to play the program.
The same with Leap Ahead, however according to this website they
don't support XP in the system requirements.

I am having a similar problem running trying to install Windows 95/98
programs on XP Home, but I get an "Error 112" message. The compatability
feature does not seem to help either. Any suggestions or does anyone know
what Error 112 means?

Hi Scott,

Here's what to do to resolve
Error 112 Setup Installation Error:
Setup is unable to decompress and copy all of the program files needed to proceed with the installation.
This error will occur if there is insufficient free space on the temporary files folder.

To resolve the issue:

1. Start Windows Explorer and navigate to %SystemRoot%\Temp.
