Hello!

This auction:

Stargate (Deluxe Edition )Widescreen Laserdisc
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dl [...] 6388410161

Shows a cover directly from LDDb.com with description: << The front of
this laserdisc looks just like the one displayed except at the top it
says Deluxe Edition.and doesn't say DTS. >>

Clearly misleading...

Should I limit cover download from only LDDb.com?

Rgds,
Julien

No. Anybody who can see the cover can "download" it by using
PrintScreen anyway, so what's the use?

You'd be better off to work in some sort of watermark or something,
I'd imagine.

The link brings up an "Objet non valide" message, but from your description,
I would say that it *isn't* misleading. It may be the wrong sleeve, but it
explains clearly the way in which the item for sale differs from the
illustration. I think life's too short to make a fuss. Plenty of commercial
organisations use inaccurate pictures with obscurely drafted disclaimers in
very small print.

Is it technically possible in any case to prevent someone from reusing scans
from LDDb.com, without a lot of work?

Just my views....

I don't know what this concern is about coping images. I am always
complemented on my large clear auction images. I want buyers to see what
they are getting and I don't care if someone saves them or uses them.

You cannot do that. AFAIK, it is technically impossible.

If a browser cannot download the image to the cache,
it cannot render the image so that the user can see it.

Even if you include code to temporarily disable
the right-click "Save As" option, and serve up
a copyright notice instead, which some sites do,
the image still ends up in the cache
(that's how the web works).

Once it is in the cache on the user's hard drive,
it can be saved to any folder.

If I understood your original post correctly,
I don't see what your issue is.

The guy took pains to point out the differences
between the disc he was selling and the disc
whose image was displayed on Ebay.

How is that "clearly misleading"?

I can understand your irritation with someone
using the image without permission,
but that is no different from what you are doing,
so I think you should just accept it
and not get bent out of shape over it.

You can try to police the internet, the web, or Usenet,
but success will be very hard to come by.

Would not help, since you could always directly link to the Database,
