Is there anyone in the Victoria, BC area that can recommend a camera
shop for service for the Digital Rebel? My Rebel suddenly stopped
working yesterday morning and I have a trip coming up that won't be a
trip without my Rebel! I have used that camera almost everyday for the
past year and a half without issue..... now the "err 99" shows and no
more functioning camera.... Canon wants me to send it to Calgary for
out of warranty "examination and repair" which would mean me without a
camera for potentially weeks and an unknown cost of course! So if
there is anyone out there that can point me in the right direction I
would really appreciate the helping hand!

PS... I've read a very large portion of the "err 99" postings in other
groups and have tried all the troubleshooting and still no go! I'm
also a little frustrated with Canon right now.... I honestly don't
think $1600 for 18 months use is a good value!!!

Dumb question. How many shots in that time? Just thinking about the
relatively-low ratings (# of exposures) of the shutters on the entry-level
DSLRs, and how that might correspond to a relatively-short lifespan for some
of us. Kinda interesting to think that one torrid day of shooting might eat
up 1-2% of your camera's shutter lifespan.

Thankfully (?) it doesn't take too long before the lens expenditures
represent far more money than the body on entry-level DSLRs, so replacing
the body doesn't seem quite so expensive down the road as it did when you
bought it.

Out of interest, I wonder how much it costs us for Canon to replace a
shutter mechanism?
