I was wondering which is better for gaming the HD 7850 or the gtx 660. I'm thinking about doing a build with these specs:

i5 3570k
8 gig ram
500 watt power supply

Are there any bottlenecks in my system? Anything I should upgrade/downgrade?

Thanks! Do you think my build will be able to play Shogun 2 and other newer total war games? Also, how long do you think it will be able to play the newest games?

GTX 660 rules out 7850 by a distance.

It will ram those games.
Around 1-2 years at Ultra.

What about the gtx 670? I'm thinking about getting a card thats a little bit better then mid range? What's a good option for AMD for a little above mid range?

Yeah GTX670 is awesome! To be honest, the GTX660 is only mid-range interms of price - performancewise it's almost as fast as the GTX580 (last year's fastest GPU). But the GTX670 is better still, and the minimum if you want to max Far Cry 3 at 1080p and AA. Any game other than Far Cry 3 can be maxed on the GTX660 though.

Would I need a special cooler or any other products to overclock the gtx 670? Also, how much performance gain happens when I overclock?

It's down to how much you overclock and the particular game and settings. As a very general rule of thumb, you can expect around 10% framerate increase from a 15% core clock and memory increase.

If you OC it way more and didn't monitor temps, then there maybe some problems.

But don't take tension. Use MSI Afterburner and Increase the clocks slowly.
And keep an eye on the Temps.

As i said before in a different thread its a bit late to get the 600 series due to the 700 will be out i would be patient and get the better card instead of buying one now and seeing how the new card is going to be then getting that one. I bought the 660 TI and honestly its a great card but i do wanna see way better specs on the 700 series so lets see how that plays out
