I'm running a Windows 7 computer at home plugged into an Actiontec GT704-WG router using Qwest/CenturyLink as the ISP. Also plugged into the router is a LaCie 2Big NAS which supports and is configured for WOL. The WOL feature works within the internal IP (192.168.0.0-...255) network, but I can't get it to work externally through my WAN address/router.

I've manually forwarded both ports 7 and 9 (TCP and UDP) on the router to the NAS and worked with the folks at PortForward to confirm that the ports are properly forward which they have confirmed they are. I've disabled the firewall on both the router and Windows 7 computer (running AVG Interent Security 2012) although I don't see how the firewall on the computer has anything to do with the NAS which is connected to the router and not the Windows 7 computer and which has the ports properly forwarded to it on the router.

Problem: When I remotely check to see if ports 7 and 9 are open on the router both are reported closed even though the Actiontec configuration shows them open.

I've checked with Qwest/CenturyLink and am told they don't block ports.

So, if the ISP doesn't block and the firewall(s) is/are disabled on the router (and windows7 computer) and the router shows ports 7 and 9 properly forwarded to the LaCie NAS, why can't I externally activate the WOL feature on the NAS when it works fine on the internal IP network, or put another way, why aren't ports 7 and 9 open and accessible when the Actiontec shows that they are?

I've run out of things to try but I'm obviously missing something. Can anyone out there lend a hand or impart some wisdom?
