High-end single CPU or medium dual CPU?

I need help in determining which is better to go for high-end single CPU workstation or medium dual CPU workstation, I'll be using this machine in 3d animation and video editing (3ds Max and After Effects), the following options are within my budget:

[Single CPU] Intel Core i7-3960X @ 3.30GHz Six-Core 15MB L3 Cache cpubenchmark=12,895, price~$1100.

or

[Dual CPU] Intel Xeon E5-2630 @ 2.30GHz Six-Core 15MB L3 Cache cpubenchmark=8,807, price~$600 + $600 total ~$1200.

Best solution

CPU benchmarks do not tell everything. No point to pay 3960X 1100$ when you can take a 3930k much better price.

For dual CPU set Intel Xeon E5-2660 8x 2.20GHz or Intel Xeon E5-2665 8x 2.40GHz

Buy prefer 3930k and good motherboard. Memory 32GB and BIG SSD, good case and PSU and so on.

This is nice MoBo for single CPU system: http://fi.msi.com/product/mb/Big-Bang-XPower-II.html

maybe good choice is to go single cpu set and 3930k or Intel Xeon E5-2687W 8x 3.10GHz or Intel Xeon E5-4650 @ 2.70GHz

I m sure that the 3930k is doing everything as good as other options. Not the kind of difference that you could notice without test programs. Between 3930k - E5 -4650

The intel 3930K would actually do for your needs... You would also save a almost $600 if you buy that...

I'd definitely second this over dual Xeons - you'll benefit more by purchasing a solid professional video card like the Fire Pro V7800.
