Long story Short, my XFX HD7970 GHz edition only works pretty well in games when underclocked. If i play with stock clocks i get freezes (black, grey, orange screen) after 10-15 minutes. I underclocked GPU from 1050 to 1020 and memory from 1500 to 1450, and that made me able to play BF3 and Far Cry 3 for approx 1 hour (have not played more yet).
Believe me, for the past two weeks sense i bought the VGA, i have been having those problems and tried to solve them without underclocking but nothing worked. So i decided yesterday to underclock, and that seems to have stabilized something, atleast in games. The weird thing also is that i never get any freezes whatsoever if i stress my computer with stress-softwares and benchmarks. Even with stock clocks. I have stressed with furmark for 3 hours, kombustor, i tried memtest for 4-5 hours, AIDA 64 stability tests and more and more. No Crashes with stock clock. Heck, i even stressed with Kombustor GPU test with Prime 95 together for atleast 1 hour, and no freeze or crash. But as soon as i start Far Cry 3 or BF3, they freeze after 10-15 min if the VGA is not underclocked. Even Skyrim freezes after 15-20 min. The only game that never crashes is Black Ops 2.
So, what to do? Suggestions? Should i RMA or is it nothing wrong with my VGA? I have no experience at all when its comes to clocking VGA so the clock numbers i choose above that seems to solve my freezes were only "random", i just lowered the bar a bit
