7950 and 2500k or 7970 and 1055t

Hello, i current have (had) 2 systems, one was a htpc with a 1055t and onboard graphics, and the other a 2500k and a gtx 580, the power supply blew and killed the mobo and gtx 580 of the 2500k system, now, my question is, if i should buy another mobo and a 7950, or buy a 7970 for the 1055t system, i never really needed a htpc in the first place. lol.

I'm typically an NV fan, but i much prefer the games that come with the 79xx series cards, and also have a bit more performance then the 660 ti, also i may do some bitcoin mining...so....thanks for the response though!

7950s are cheaper in the u.s. (279.99 after rebate) + you get $200 in free games witht he 7950s, + you can only effectively bit coin mine on a radeon card, i think I'm pretty firm on Radeon for this one, and the 384-bit bus rapes the 660 ti's...most of those responses where comparing a 7870 to a 660 ti

the 660 ti is waaay out of 7950's league, and I see you do it in nearly every other thread.

If you are choosing between the two, go with the 2500k and the 7950, all day long, you will get better performance. IF you considered it, getting a GTX 670 will perform even better than that 7950 in most cases, especially if you get a non-reference 670 (like an Asus DirectCUII model or comparable Galaxy card).

because the 7950 is $70-150 cheaper then the gtx 670 (670 is the same price as a 7970, at least for me), and i would have to pair it with the 1055t as my budget is pretty tight right now

You could always sell the 1055t system and get a 7970 + mobo to use with your 2500k.

The 1055t is unfortunately going to struggle if its at stock clocks. however, The 8XXXs are about to be announced, if you can wait a few weeks (and save a few bucks)maybe the 7970 will drop where you can squeeze one in. If not def the 7950. Not sure why anyone would suggest a 660Ti

Just to clear things up, both Cpu's will have heavy overclocks as both had water-cooling loops (1055t just for fun) the 2500k 4.8-5ghz daily, the 1055t i could only get up to 3.8 as i did not have too much luck with the silicone lottery on that one. lol

You're wrong on this one. GTX 660 Ti goes toe to toe with HD 7950. They're averagely tied, and I'd personally go for the cheaper one or the one with better goodies (like games).

@OP: I'd go for 2500k and HD 7950. Though, are you sure the warranty won't cover GTX 580 and the motherboard? You don't really have to tell them what happened, except that it has stopped working.

I need to buy a new gpu atm as i'm stuck in the cold when it comes to gaming... although as it's been the trend the past few generations, gpus seem to keep their value for a while, so in april or so i will sell the one i get and buy the next series. after considering all of the free games it might seem like a net gain. (will probably get $200 maybe a bit less)

The Motherboard was ASrock, so no luck their, just a message back, are you sure you tried it this way, or that way, and with all good hardware? and i only had a 2 year warranty on the gtx 580>.< the psu had a 5 year waaranty though!....lol

Cool, but I and most people agree the unorthodox methods techradar use have no real world implications, and more frames is more frames. I also love putting all eye candies to max where the 660 ti chokes, along with occasional multi-monitor gaming so please stop pushing the crappy 660ti...

Hey now, I may not be a fan of Nvidia, but just because it doesn't do what you want it to do, doesn't mean its crap, your not the center of the world, the 660 ti IS neck and neck with the 7950, due to its latest driver's, (7950 will whip back soon enough with drivers from ATI, eventually), the card is supposed to be competing with the 7870, or 7850, (Tier list, I set up for myself due to number of cards, and which compete with which, concreted at time of inspection, goes similar to 670 - 7950 660 ti - 7870 660 - 7850)
Not only that, but quit being a fanboy, I'll pick Nvidia for builds when I see its right, and I'll pick ATI for builds when I see its right.

It's not crap, just getting annoyed with people that repeatly push it when I said no, this thread between 7970 and 7950, Im not a fan boy, I've owned almost all NVIDIA cards, the only ATI card I've ever owned was a 5870, I listed the two cards as furry are the two that fit my set+up the best, and I like the games that come with the 79x series a bit better currently, I will be purchasing a 780 on release, but that does not appear to be Untill q2-4 of next year, sorry for any mistakes and lack of punctuation I am writing this on my phone from a Christmas party lol. Sorry if anything I have said came off as disrespectful.
