In November I built a computer for my mother in law for Christmas and now she is having a bizarre problem that I have never encountered. She told me that her mouse quit responding so she did a force shut down of the system by holding the power switch for 4 seconds. When she rebooted the machine the Asus motherboard screen came up and froze. It will boot to BIOS or any other option that is available. This computer has worked perfectly from November. Can someone please lend me a hand in resolving this issue.

System specs.

Asus M5A78L-Mlx plus motherboard

AMD X4 945 Phenom processor 3.0 ghz quad core design

Try a factory reset of the BIOS? If you can't get into the BIOS remove the CMOS battery and let it sit for a minute or two, put the battery back in and start it up. If that doesn't work and you can't get into the BIOS because it still freezes, I don't think there is much you can do.

Thanks for the tip I will try that and let you know. If that does not fix the problem will the motherboard have to be replaced?
