Graphics Card Selection

Hi,

I have come with a question which I really need answering for a PC build I am doing.

I have looked at a Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 2GB - http://www.waeplus.co.uk/product/1954998/SAPPHIRE-TECHNOLOGY-Radeon-HD-7870-GHz-E

I have been pretty much set on this but then I was reading about the 7870 and I heard that sometimes during gaming it can go black screen and whatever? Is this true? I don't really want to buy a bad card seen as I am on a budget and can't afford to buy another one IF it is faulty.
So then I thought about getting a nVidia GTX 660 (which supposedly is the competition to this card) but this card is easily more expensive and in some areas is actually worse performance?

I will just say now that I need to be able to play games at good fps whilst recording too, if there is a different card you can suggest for around £160 then that'll be good.

I would truly appreciate the help and I need help as I greatly love gaming with my friends and I just need to bump up the performance

any standard GFX from any brand has 1-2 card as faulty item

7870 is rock solid card and if there are some faulty amongs them, thats normal
