First time build under $950

Hello All,

I'm seeking advice on a build for my brother. His budget is a strict $950. He works in industrial design so the pc will be used for gaming and 3d rendering. Luckily I have a microcenter near me so I am able to get pretty good pricing. This is what I came up with so far:

Power Supply Thermaltake TR2 Series 600 Watt ATX 37.99
Motherboard ASRock EXTREME 4 79.99
CPU Intel i7 3770k 229.99
RAM Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) 64.99
CASE NZXT Phantom 410 65.99
Hard Drive Samsung 840-Series MZ-7TD120BW 120GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) 78.99
GPU msi nvidia gtx 670 pe 369.99
Cooling Fan HyperCooler 212+ 19.99
TOTAL COST: 947.92

Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated.

  1. Don't get that power supply - it's not from a trusted brand. This would be far better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

The Samsung 840 is OK for an SSD - you might want to get a mechanical HD for now and then you can add a good SSD later on.
