Looking for the best/decent upgrade to my graphics card

I recently bought a used custom desktop for cheap and now im trying to add to it to make it a decent gaming rig

I really want to add a new graphics card but im not sure what is compatible/an actual upgrade

i have a

intel core 2 duo 3.0 ghz
asus p5q-e board
ati radeon 4850 512
2 gb ddr2 ram but i just ordered 2 more to pop in so it will be a total of 4
i believe im sitting on a 500w power supply
and it has a sweet lian li case


This thing actually is rather decent already in terms of what i have had in the past
has played every game i have except planetside 2 and it said it was the ram that was holding it up.

I am super new at this but im trying to learn so any advice or insight would be much appreciated. ty.

You should concentrate on upgrading your RAM and graphics card. A budget would help us find the best solution...

yes good point. I am looking to spend around $100 for a new graphics card and I mean new to me. I'am not against buying used or refurbished stuff.
I had a line on either a 4850 1 gb or 2 4870s but i was not sure if they would deliver any noticeable difference.

RAM is quite cheap now. I recommend at least 4GB...
