HELP (please) with Upgrade!!!

I'm getting my Dad's old computer and it's way outdated to the point where to make it even run decently I need a new CPU, Mobo, RAM, and Case. I wanted some suggestions for those 4 components. My budget is $300 so it's tight. I'm going to use the system for light gaming but I was thinking at least an i-3 CPU, and I'd lke my case to have front USB 3.0 support, but it's not required. I'm looking at this to be the first step upgrade of two so I want everything to be decent and capabable of a GPU, HDD, Optical drive, PSU, and fan upgrade coming in the near future.
