Hi

Just wondering the best way to pack my laserdisc collection when I move next
weekend. I am doing the packing and removal myself, just wondering if there
are any tips?

I've never had any problem packing them like LPs. Get 12x12x16 shipping boxes
(available at uhaul). Pack them tight.

AZ Nomad,

You will wind up with split covers and inner seams if you pack like
records. Laserdiscs are much heavier than records, and will cut
through the covers and inner sleeves during shipping as the boxes are
moved around and the contents shift. Follow the procedures from the
following web site.

There shouldn´t be a problem with packing them normally.

That´s what I did a couple months back when i moved and no damage
done to any of them at all. If packing to ship with the post it´s a good
idea
to pack them like shower urinator (??) suggests.

I've done exactly that 8 times now and never had a single damaged disk. The
weight is mostly irrelevent as long as you don't do anything incredibly stupid
like drop them.

Also, laserdiscs are NOT any heavier than records. Pack two 16x12x12 boxes
and you'll see for yourself. A single laser disc may be 5 times heavier than
an LP, but it'll also be 5 times as thick.

I moved in december with my entire 750+ ldcollection, stacking them
vertically in smaller cubic "lp-size" boxes

So far as I can tell, not a single dics or box has taken any damage during
the transportation, and I didn't even cary all of the boxes myself(!)

Having received some 500 laserdiscs thrpugh Ebay and online sellers, I
can tell you that some 20% or more packed with the disc in the
cardboard sleeve have had the edges damaged during shipping. Not ONE
with the disc removed from the sleeve has ever had damage. Even new,
sealed discs can have the edge knocked out, especially in box sets.

The suggestions in http://whp.home.att.net/Lasers/LD-Pack.htm are good
advice. for small shipments it's pointless taking the risk not to
follow it.
