Crossfire/SLI or single card

I was wondering can 2 card crossfired/Sli have better performance then a newer and faster card?

For example
Can 2 x 7770 have better performance then 7950

Yes they do but you might have microstuttering and other problems that a single card might avoid.

Yes.But want more current ( High watts psu) and 2x gpus high cost then one x latest.
after several months u desided to upgrade not posible in 2x old gpus.
possible in 1x latest card u can add another.
