DMA33 DVD AND DMA100 HDD ON SAME IDE PORT?

HI I HAVE 1 IBM 7200 DLTA 307060 60GB DISK
1 QUANTUM 5400 FIREBALL LCT20 40GB DIKS
1 MAXTOR 5400 BRAND NEW 80 GB DISK
1 DMA 33 DVD DRIVE

i want to use software raid making 1 partition for programs (2disks) and one for the virtual memmory file (3 disks)

which disk should i put with the dvd? as i duess that disks transfer mode vill become dma33.... all other disks are dma100

i was planning on puting the 40 gb drive with the dvd as its only used for document storade thus doesnt need fast acces. but will this slow down my general software raid artition for the virtual memory? (will the oter 2 drives have to w8 for the dma33???

what tools would you recomend for setup testing (to get one of these nice graphs that show read/write preformans.... Such as the one used here on tomshardware for the software raid article....

A couple of comments.

It doesn't matter what hard drive you have on the cable with the DVD-ROM. It will not slow down the disk to ATA/33 ... that's a fallacy, due to the incorporation of <A HREF="http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confTiming-c.html" target="_new">Independent Device Timing</A> in modern chipsets. Only the burst rate is really affected, and then, only when both devices on the cable are accessed at the same time.

I'd put the Quantum and Maxtor together for the RAID, due to the fact that they have the same platter speed. You really shouldn't mix and match disks with different platter speeds in a RAID configuration. But you are going to lose some disk space on the Maxtor as a result.

Then I'd put the IBM on the cable with the DVD-ROM, with the hard drive as the Master.
