Hello!

In a couple months time i will embark on my first PC build! This PC will mainly be used for gaming (predominantly RPGs) and i was wondering if the Phenom II X4 965 BE and HD 7870Ghz will be good enough to run these games at decent-ish settings. I am definitely going to overclock the Phenom. I was originally going for an i5 2500K, but my budget is pretty low at the moment.

My main questions are:

Will the CPU bottleneck my GPU?
How well will i be able to run games on the Phenom?

Thank you for your help,

Tom :)

the 7870 is an amazing card but you have 2 things to consider, the best card by popular demand is the 7950 because it is overclockable to be better then a 7970 while only being a bit more expensive
not to mention that in a few months (most people thing march ish) amd should be coming out with the 8000 series so you might want to wait for that. If you do wait, you could get a 7000 for much cheaper or get an improved 8000.

also the 965 BE is a great chip without overclock it should be fine

side note: make sure you dont skimp on the psu, most people reccomend a 650W+ with a 7870 or higher even though amd says 500W
