so i just built my very first computer after making many upgrades with my old one. i have a bit of experience but dont consider myself a pro. so i ask you generous people to please help me out with this one...
i have a zotac GTX680 GPU in a ASRock z77 extreme4 mobo.
heres from the top ... i initially installed everything together and booted it up. my initial thought was to use the video output from the video card, in my experience once a video card is in, the other video outputs on board dont work. however it wasnt as so in this case. after turning on the PC and having no video signal, i had to use the on board video output meanwhile having the 680 installed. it worked, so i thought nothing of it. i formatted my drive, installed windows, installed the mobo drivers, and thats when things went downhill.
after restarting from the drivers i got 'no video signal' so thought that switching to the 680 output in this case would work. ney, still no signal. i removed the GPU and plugged in to the VGA again. it worked!. so i know its not the mobo. so this time i read up and found out, it could be the BIOS. i updated bios, and updated the drivers i had. i then put the card back in, and still get no output signal from it, nor from the mobo. so long as the zotac 680 is installed, i cannot get a video signal.
...as i was typing all this i found a solution, but i still have an issue. i installed the card into the 2nd PCIe and it somehow worked. but i, wondering if there are any disadvantages to doing so. as far as i know, there should be none. but i still dont understand why it wont work on the first PCIe.
*note* i have only tried using the DVI port with a DVI to VGA adapter. i will purchase an HDMI tomorow to see if it could just be the port. i checked the fan on the video card and its running, so i assume its not a power issue, and the card must be running fine.
