XFX R7970 black screen

Hello people,

Totday i have bought an XFX R7970. I put in the card and power up my computer. Then there is a black screen. I don't even get a bios system setup. The new GPU is an PCI-Express 3.0 and i have two 2.0 slots, but that is no problem(?).

Checked my mb bios and flashed it to the latest version, still nothing. Checked my PSU (a Coolermaster 620 watt) and according to the psu calculator i still have around 110 watts left...

My system specs are:
I7 920
3 * 2gb ram @ 1666 Mhz
Gigabyte X58-UDR3 rev 1.6 motherboard
3 * 1TB HD 7200 RPM

Does anyone have a clue or is my new GPU card a DOA? Thanks in advance!

PS: When i put in my old GPU card (HD4870) the PC works fine and i get no black screens.

I'll start with the basic question: Did you remove the drivers and used DriverSweeper while the old GPU was still in, and then plugged the new one, or u forgot about that?

on a 2nd though, if u dont even get the first boot msg, my point should be invalid...

Thanks for the response. I did remove the drivers of the old card with the old card still in (windows config-> remove programs). Did not use drivesweeper....maby a stupid question but is that necessary?
