Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I would like to put together this computer over a few months. This is going to start out with the basic configuration and grow from there.

Part one is going to be case, CPU, motherboard, graphics card, power supply, 16GB ram. Will use current 22" monitor (or 47" samsung HDTV) keyboard & mouse from an old machine.

Part two build custom desk or convince wife to let me build a computer room ie mancave! Currently have an executive office set up but it will not accommodate a triple or quadruple monitor setup. Better half doesn't understand technology and thinks my older laptop will be "just fine". It will work if I turn down the settings on some games.

Part three install second graphics card, purchase 3 dell monitors, buy a used Logitech Z5500 5.1 system, G27 wheel, & Logitech joystick.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I ditched the desktop a few years ago after my computer had a few problems (Motherboard & powersupply went out HD crashed twice. I got frustrated and gave the thing away to my uncle who frankenstined the thing to work again. After that I didn't need a powerful machine and picked up a laptop from Costco. Now I'm looking for an affordable machine to run my programs, proE, solid works, auto desk Revit, and all the current games.

Forgot to mention I might also put in a liquid cooling system if I overclock it in the future. As for links I'll post those up when I get back home.

your better off buying all the parts at once. if one is doa and not tested within 30 days then you have to rma to the vendor and may not get a new part back from the vendor. rma warranty from the vendor most of them warn you it may not be a new part.
also between now and june there going to be the new haswell cpu dropping. I would change a few things on your build to make it better for you.

Not necessary. BD-R playback software is horrible to work with and is very finicky with displays. Not to mention it's not included with the drives and costs up to and including $99 a seat.

Do not purchase an Intel motherboard and there's no reason to go X79 on a gaming rig, too much investment for not a lot of payoff. There's also no reason to purchase Dominator Platinum - RAM is not the area to blow tons of money on a build, and the Dominator is ridiculously overpriced for what you get.

For a $3K rig I think I would completely scrap the original build and go with something like this:
