How does the nVIDIA GT 635m laptop chip compare to the AMD radeon 7850 discrete card?

My friend recently got a new laptop and has been saying that his laptop is at par with the performance of my desktop and I think he's full of it (I dont have access to my PC right now so i cant run bench marks to compare with him) But part of the big argument is his laptop has an i7 and mine has a i52500k he didnt tell me the model of the i7 because he's not techy but thats neither here nor there.

I know my card will perform better than his chip but i want to know by how much. and if the laptop version of the i7 is that much better than the desktop version i5.

The laptop GPU is, on average, 10-25% slower than its desktop equivalent. Since there is no GeForce GT 635, I'm going to give you a comparison that would line up about right by choosing a card that would be slightly better than a potential GT 635, the GT 640, and compare it to the HD 7850:

As you can see, the 7850 dominates the far weaker GT 640, which is already more powerful than your laptop GT 635M, and that's not even taking into account the 10-25% added weakness for being a laptop GPU. There are some laptop i7s that are better than desktop i5s, like my i7-2670qm was better than my brother's i5-2400, but not better than an i5-2500k.

Yours will be much better... but if you are playing at 1920x1080 res and he is playing at 1280x720 or so the FPS will be close.. But he will be playing at half the pixels.
