How much for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash?

Hello everybody. After reading most of the posts on here about how much memory to use in a system, it seems like 512MB is the amount that most people say should be in a higher end system. My question is: if I plan to use the computer for photo editing and web design (using programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash) is 512MB of DDR Ram enough or should I go for 1GB of DDR Ram. Will I see any significant difference in using 512MB vs. 1GB. FYI--I plan on building a computer using a Athlon XP 1800+. Thanks in advance for all the replies. THG Rules!

Photo+Dreamweaver+Flash = no video editing then 512MB RAM is enough. It's video editing that requires a good 1GB for smooth manipulation.

keep this in mind... you can NEVER have enough RAM...im gonna start my new system with 1 GB, but will kick it up to 2 GB in the near future... 1 GB should be Very Nice for what you plan on doing..

True, true, but I can get away with photoediting in PhotoShop Elements with 256MB so 512MB will probably be the sweet spot. Photoshop Elements, is not the complete professional Photoshop, but a slightly stripped down version for photo editing enthusiasts. It does, however use nearly as much RAM as the complete Photoshop. I use Flash 4 without any problems. I don't have Dreamweaver, but FrontPage 2002 can run perfectly on my system. Seriously, I don't think Photoshop will need more than 512MB unless you're manipulating a 1GB Bitmap file.

What i would do is get a 512mb Chip...Wait till it goes down alittle more, then load in another 512mb...instead of doing it all in one shot.
