Friends,

I bought an HP 9-in-1 internal multi-card reader to use with
my SD memory card. Unfortunately, it appears to have a
proprietary connector, and can't be installed on my
computer. Can anyone recommend an internal reader (that
would fit in a standard 5.25" drive bay) that plugs into a
standard USB port? If not can you recommend an external
unit?

Answered my own question again <g>. CompUSA has an internal
unit that connects via a standard usb port.

Most of these units will connect to either a standard USB port or to a port
on the motherboard itself. The latter are seen on most motherboards made in
the last two years or so but require a special cable that is a little
difficult to find. The same cable is required to attach the motherboard
ports to any usb plugs built into a computer case. I have an Adaptec reader
that fits into the 3.5 slot in a computer case, reads floppies as well as
all forms of memory cards, and can connect by a standard USB port or to the
motherboard.
