Do i need heat sinks for the ram on my graphics card?

Hi i am planning to install a after market heatsink and i was wondering if the mini heatsinks that go on the ram are required. the card is a gtx 480. thanks

Yes, they are. If you don't put them on you risk damaging one or more RAM chips.
