Hello, i was wondering if this is a good gaming rig. Im going to buy
GPU: Asus GTX 660 2GB
8 GB DDR3 Ram
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4 GHZ
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Pro
PSU: XFX Core Edition P1 550W
I'm going to play mostly MMO's and some Fps games.
Yes the motherboard is top notch. This is excellent choices for an extremely good gaming build that will play pretty much everything you throw at it at high to ultra settings.I recommend you get CPU Cooler:COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel 2011/1366/1155 and AMD FM1/AM3+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It's overall a decent build, definitely OC the CPU. However, that GPU is not the best its ok for it's price. If you can throw out a bit more cash I would recommend the GTX 670, or at least get the 660 Ti, a bit more cash for a 10-15% performance increase. Would be better for MMO's, especially WoW and others with large raids... you know when you see those massive FPS dips because there are 39 other people there. I've had my 6870 2GB drop me down to 11 FPS in raids in WoW, when I normally hit 120-150 FPS.
Is 10% gain really gonna make a difference there though? It would turn your 11fps into 12fps. I think the GTX660 is solid choice. Obviously if you can afford it, step right up to a GTX670, but if not, GTX660 really is a very capable card.
For $30 more, and solid minimum 10% performance boost seems well worth the $$$. I mean its not the the 670 vs 680 for a $150 price difference for 5-10 more FPS. $30 is reasonable, and it will also leave a bit of extra room for multi-monitor or 3D gaming if thats something you think you may want to try in the future. The Ti provides extra backbone thats all I'm saying.
I'd agree with the last bit. You don't know what country the OP is in though - you're assuming these are US dollar prices. Value actually varies a lot by country, and he may not place the same value as you do on that performance increase. Agreed that the GTX680 is a waste of money too.
