7 Pro boot loop-ish-thing

I am having a problem with windows, it will boot fine (checked temps, no errors with anything) but as soon as it gets to the log in screen it will black out and boot again as if someone was pulling the power cable. I have had the build up and going for about 3 months now and I don't know why this is happening now. It had been in sleep mode for about 3 days, if that helps. I don't think that this is a virus, because I literally have not opened an email on this thing, its for CAD, Photoshop, and the occasional gaming sesh!

The specs are as follows:
Windows 7 pro (all updates installed successfully)
Maximus IV gene-z
2500k
msi 6970 lightning
8gb ram
2x ocz 60gb agility 3's
2 TB WD black
Asus bluray
OCZ PSU (700W)
Asus wireless card

I would really like to get this resolved as soon as possible, cause I have a project due at the end of spring break, and its on that machine...ugh

Try booting into safe mode to restore windows. Stop using sleep mode !

I can get into safe mode, the problem is the system only stays live for about 5 - 10 seconds then it just blacks out. I have removed everything except the cpu, boot ssd, and one stick of ram, and the problem still exists. I am starting to wonder if there is a virus involved because it is like clockwork, is there any pre-os applications that allow one to back up programs/files?

Idk if this is relivent, but I also am not able to flash a bios to the mobo, it tells me that the "file integrity check failed" I have no clue how to fix it, I have downloaded all of the available bios's multiple times, and no luck...

Unless you know specifically that you need a bios upgrade, you should not be attempting to flash bios. I use Acronis backup/recovery (Costs$$$ though) to preboot backup or recover. I have seen a product (Macrium) recommended many times, but not sure of preboot functions; you can check it out, but if you suspect virus why backup anything. Kapersky has a rescue CD or USB boot rescue you can create to boot from and virus scan. If this is your own build, I assume you have a Windows CD to repair-install the OS ?

You can only do a repair install from inside a running instance of Win7. They call it an upgrade installation. This does sound like your boot.ini file is broken. Since it sounds like you have wisely kept only you OS on the ssd, I would suggest a clean install of Win7. You will have to reinstall all the chipset drivers, programs and other drivers but it may be the shortest rout in the end. You can try booting from the windows disk, then trying a repair option.

boot.ini ? Wesnt away with Vista

yea, I just said forget it...I installed another copy on the other ssd and wiped the first one...now its all boring lol. Thank you all for your help

One more thing...is there any way to shrink down windows because it seems to me that at its bulkiest it was pushing 45gigs :non:  and ssd memory is expensive...lol...I do have some large programs (inventor, autocad, 3ds Max, maya, and the master collection just to name a few), but I set them to install on the HDD, it just sounds quite bloated to me? and at my school in the engineering lab the builds are way smaller than that, and they have about double the bulky programs.

As I recall MS says you need 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit). This is for a basic win7 version, no bells and whistles. It is usually recommended to have a 30GB area available for any complete install. If you install to a disk where a previous version is detected then you get the windows.old file that can be pretty chunky. My win7/64 directory is about 17GB in itself. To that you would add the basic Users, Program Files, Program Files (x86) and whatever else is created in a clean install. You can go into the Programs and Features tab in Control Panel and un-check things you do not need. This does not remove them from the disk however.
