I have a samsung samtron 5Ei monitor. Lately, a lot of green and purple opaque horizontal bands have started to appear on the monitor. They are thin bands but very many in number. Also they are more concentrated on the left side than the right side. This started a few days ago and all i had to do to get them to disappear was to turn off and again turn on the monitor. This worked for a while but for some hours now that isn't working.

I know that the monitor is a very old one...to be frank i have been aggressively using it for 5 years now. The reason why i ask this question is cause i have an equally archaeic video card, the sis 6225. Since busted monitors dont normally recover to full bloom at all, and mine is from time to time, i was wondering maybe the video card's gone.

Basically, i guess what i wanna know is what causes these gren and purple bands to appear? Are they one of the usual symptoms of a failing monitor?

And for those who are wondering...yes, i am gonna buy a new PC soon. However, i need this old one for researching the new components a bit, i was wondering if i could salvage it a few more days.
