I'm having problems with the resolution and refresh rate of my monitor with Windows XP. As I switch resolutions, say from 1024 x 768 to 800 x600, Windows XP does not adjust the refresh rate to maxium and instead keeps the refresh rate for the 1024 x 768 resolution. My monitor refreshes at 85Hz at a resolution of 1024 x 768 and 100Hz at 800 x 600. In Windows 98 & ME, the refresh rates were automatically set to maximum as I switched resolutions. Can anyone give me a clue on how to do this with Windows XP? Could this be a driver problem with my video card? I'm using a Micronics Geforce2MX400. It's impossible to get native drivers for that card since Micronics has gone under. Also, I am using the correct monitor profile. Please help.
It depends on your monitor / vid card combination. I have a Samsung 900NF monitor which is capable of 100Hz refresh rate at 1280 x 1024. However, the monitor recommends a refresh rate of 85Hz, which is likely what the OS is reading. I can manually set it to 100Hz, but I haven't had a reason to.
