Ubuntu server (leaning towards raid 10)

February 16, 2013 7:15:41 PM

I'm looking to build a raid 10 or raid 6 server. I'd mostly use it to keep local dumps of all of my remote virtual servers as well as backups for various PCs and Mac books in the family. My current backup server also doubles as a media center for our TV, I like this setup a lot as its convient.

I'm still unsure of whether I should go raid 10 or raid 6. I've also had some trouble locating a decent case that supports a lot of internal drive bays but isn't rack mount. Should I go with a raid enabled mobo, or should I pick up a raid card? Intel or AMD? I've heard intel is better for raid?

I guess I just need some basic advice building for a non-windows raid PC. Most of my experience is with windows. I've played with google a bit but haven't found any advice that really points me in the right direction. Any advice would be appreciated.
