Looking at some older posts, I really liked the hardware profile options (
which i never saw a need for) that was suggested by Jimmy S. When I plan on
just gaming online, I open task manager and stop the various processes that
as ignorant as I am of thier functions ( trial & error gave me a bit of a
list to work with) I have deemed not needed for my purposes. That has dropped
the running processes from about 17 to 12, if I dont interrupt the RPC.

So I guess I am asking what processes would yall consider the 'bare-bones'
needed for online gaming? and how to identify & differentiate the many
'svchost.exe' that all have different PIDs. Is csrss, smss, lsass, really
needed?
or am i asking for a link that kinda acts as a glossary/dictionary of these
processes, so i can make a 'bare-bones' online gamer profile.

if this gets relocated for bordering on off-topic, plz let me know where to
look
My thanxz in advance

Hi Respawnz,

Here's a list of processes to disable as suggested by a gaming group:
http://www.technobabble.com.au/tec [...] aming2.htm

And even more from that search are available here:

Jimmy S. you ROX !!! I knew from reading older posts that you have a
handle on what i want to do. Now to hit those links :)
BTW- hasn't anybody @ MS considered a strictly 4 gaming OS after all these
years of watching game titles literally mint money. I have yet to meet
anybody who bought a cr8 for homeuse, buy it for anything but gaming. And
being old enough to remember the Carter administration, you would think my
social cirlce would have somebody with a spreadsheet/database/clerical
application on thier home pc's. I just dont see how nobody has noticed this,
or was that the difference between Home & Pro editions ? But I DO
understand that yall have to deal with the problem of making a
'cookie-cutter' OS for all hardware etc... Just figured that a gamer OS at
the core, with extensions for the variety of hardware, would have been the
template to go by. instead we get the eye-candy of longhorn, which from
my gamers perspective is just a mass of sub-routines, etc...that eat into my
resources...even if my new cr8 will be an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 SLI rig. You
know what i mean, a gamer really dont care for eye-candy Till he gets into
his game. Wow got off point bad
again U ROX Jimmy S.

It's called Xbox, the game itself is the OS. 8-)
