Not sure what component died

My dad asked me to look at his desktop and I'm having trouble figuring this one out. It sounds like it's powering on, the DVD drive can open & close, but there is no data being sent to the monitor. I don't think the issue is a graphic card, because I'm not able to log into it remotely. When I connect it directly to my router, it's not even showing up as a device on my network. Any ideas about what could be wrong here?

  1. It could be the PSU. One of the voltage rails may have failed. You can test the PSU using the paper clip trick to turn it on and then read voltages to ground with a VOM. Or, if you're not familiar with that procedure, you can use one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100018860&IsNodeId=1&Description=psu%20tester&name=PC%20tools%2f%20Testers&Order=BESTMATCH
