I have just finished putting together my custom PC. When I turn the PC on the fans work, the lights display on the motherboard and graphics card so everything looks in order. Also the DVD drive works fine. However there is no single beep and my monitor says that there is no connection. A friend suggested that it may be due to the motherboard and processor bios being different or not in sync. Any suggestions? I have double checked the connections/wires ect and there seems to be no issues. All the fans are working including the CPU fan.

check that the system not booting from from onboard video first and not the gpu. look on the mb check to see if any error led are on. most people make the error of forgetting the 8/4 pin atx power on the side of the mb. or they forget the mb standoffs and short the mb out.

No error LEDs are on. The fan for the CPU to which the power fan connectors are near the CPU, all works fine suggesting that the standoffs are not causing the mb to short out.

pull the video card and one ram dimm and see if the system post to onboard video port. if not there a lose wire or dead short. try bread boarding the pc outside the case.
