Hello everyone. I play a lot of games on the computer. Whenever I play multiplayer Crysis 2 Maximum Edition my computer overheats and shuts down. I suspect it is my GPU but I am not entirely sure. Crysis 2 is the only game that overheats my computer though. Other games such as Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3, Call of Duty Black Ops, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Modern Warfare 2, Skyrim, and more that I can't remember off the top of my head do not overheat my computer. Last time when I was playing Crysis 2 my computer shutdown. I felt the vents and they were really hot. My motherboard displays the temperature, and when I turned the computer back on it said 97 C. Everything was really hot on the vents. I had a cooling problem about 2 or 3 months ago though. I installed new fans and the problem seemed to be eliminated. I have six fans including the heat sink and GPU fan. Every single slot where a fan is available; I put one. So, something must be really wrong. I have such an urge to play Crysis 2 right now, but I am scared to do so.

Yes I have in the past, but last time I opened my computer to add the fans there was dust everywhere. It was on the heatsinks and all over parts of the case. I didn't clean it at that time since I didn't have any compressed air.

Edit: I suspect the GPU, but I really don't know to be honest. How can I find out?

You need to clean out your computer case. Check your cpu temps at idle and under load. Usually if your computer is shutting off it would be due to cpu temps. This could be caused by dust build up, or your heatsink is not seated correctly (or fan is not working properly. Core Temp or HWmonitor are a couple programs used to monitor temps. If your GPU is overheating you may need to clean it out with compressed air as well.

Sorry to bring this thread back, its been awhile. I just needed to buy four new fans and remove the old ones. The fans I was using originally were already three, four, and five years old from older computers in the house. The problem is fixed. Thank you all though.
