Hi
I just wanted to get a more professional opinion on a build I have selected at the website pcspecialist for a pc that will be used primarily for music production, but is also able to run games to a satisfactory standard.

Here is the parts list we have chosen;

Case - Fractal Define R4
Processor - Intel quad core i5-3570k 3.4GHz 6MB cache
Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V LK
RAM - 16GB samsung dual-DDR3 1333MHz (2x8GB)
Graphics card - 1GB Nvidia Geforce GT630
Hard drive 1 (boot drive) - 120GB Kingston v300 SSD
HD2 - 1TB WD1002FAEX
PSU - Corsair 650W TX650
Processor cooling - super quiet 22dBa triple copper heatpipe intel CPU cooler
Soundcard - onboard - I have a M-Audio usb interface so I'm assuming I don't need anything here?

The main aim is to keep it as cool as possible whilst running memory intensive programs, whilst remaining as quiet as possible.
I'm not sure if any extra fans would need to be fitted to achieve this, with the case selected.

Are there any potential problems with the parts selected?

Thanks for any help.

Right now if you buy that motherboard at Newegg.com, it comes with 1 stick of 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM, which is the RAM you should use for this setup, not 1333.

You really do not need 16GB, but if you just really want to have that much, just get a 2nd stick of the same kind in place of the RAM you chose and you'll be good to go!

Which CPU cooler specifically are you getting?
With the 3570K, even if not OC'ing, I'd get an aftermarket.
They're unlocked so tend to climb in temps, especially with gaming, so at least get the Hyper 212 EVO, which is quiet.

Hi thanks for the reply, I have a few questions though, so forgive my lack of knowledge here.

Why am I better off with a 1600 than a 1333 RAM?
Is there any disadvantage to getting two 4GB ram sticks instead of one 8GB one?
The processor cooler you suggest isn't available at pcspecialist, the next step up from the one I originally selected is the Corsair Hydro series. Is this just as good?

This is the cooler, I can't find any specs for it though.

That looks like all the cooler you need.

The RAM argument can go a number of ways.
Some say the performance boost is negligible in typical usage, but there are others like me who feel like you are getting more bang for the buck going with 1600 over 1333, especially if you are going to overclock.

I think the real performance jump dies after 1600 (vs. getting 1866 or 2133MHz) in getting what you pay for, and I also think unless you're doing video rendering more than 8GB is a waste of money.

With that being said, since you said you wanted 16GB and it's best to run in dual channel mode with a pair, NewEgg gives you a free 8GB stick of compatible 1600, and for the same price as the 16GB kit you chose, you can get a 2nd stick so you can run in dual channel and get the 16GB you wanted.

The disadvantage comes from running a single stick of RAM because you're not running in dual channel mode.
