Hello,

as the title says.. will a intel i3 2100 overclock a gtx 650?

if yes can u recommend another cheap and good processor to run my 650?

at the moment i have an old intel i3 540 and the bottlenecking is terrible.

More about : intel 2100 overclock gtx 650

A CPU will not overclock a GPU.

In most situations an I3 2100 will not bottleneck with any card unless you get up to the high end cards (GTX 670/680, 7950/7970 or better).

If you have bottlenecking issues with a GTX 650 (non Ti), I suspect your system is not performing properly as there shouldn't be much, if any bottlenecking with that CPU and GPU. Perhaps you are expecting to much from your GTX 650.

Also, the I3 540 overclocks like a champ and should be able to hit 4+ Ghz with very little effort assuming your board can support it. You CPU at 4 Ghz should be about 15% - 20% faster than an I3 2100 which can't overclock.

It's been a few years but I had an I3 like yours up to 4.5Ghz and it was extremely fast considering it only had two physical cores.

i do believe its bottlenecking, i get 15 fps on bf3.. on ultra or low high or low resolution i will get 15 fps and i only have a 500w psu and no cooling overclocking isnt the best idea

did you update your drivers? Dollars to donuts that'll help.

Problem is that an i3-2100 doesn't use the same socket as your current CPU (i3-540) so you would have to upgrade the motherboard too. But if you really want to go this path might as well get an i5-2500K or i5-3570K instead.

Also you didn't say which version of the 650 you have. As ish416 said the standard 650 (non-Ti) is not that fast, maybe you are expecting too much out of your video card. At what resolution are playing BF3? Maybe it's normal to get 15 FPS with a 650 if your resolution is high and you use a lot of AA and AF.

i know i have to change my mobo too ASRock H61M-VS will be fine and cheap, so you do think the 2100 isnt the best idea? cuz its the cheaper. i have 650 non-ti

and i play bf3 on a 19" monitor so the resolution isnt very high, and as i said it doesnt matter cuz i get same fps on any gfx settings or resolution. when i open the game i get 50 fps on ultra and high res(also tried low gfx and low res)... then i play for a couple of mins and it starts lagging to 15 fps.

and yes gfx card drivers are updatey

my friend lend me his 9500gt since i cant use the 650.. and i get about 20 on ultra so believe me the 650 cant have 15 on bf3.

If you are getting good frames at start-up but it tapers off maybe there is a power issue going to the GPU? If it looses some power going to it that will definitely drop the FPS down.

Will the FPS come back up after a while or does it just stay down when it happens?

A i3 540 will surely Bottleneck most Modern Cards.

i3 540 is Bottlenecking your GPU. Try OCing your CPU to avoid it a little.

Even old i5 Bottleneck GPU nowadays.
Only old i7 is able to handle the games without a issue

A Upgrade to a i3 2100 will fix all the issues. ;)
