I want to build a custom pc for home theater. Any recommendations on the best video card with video out to TV? Any advice on other components? This will be my first time to build a pc from scratch.

Thanks

The best Graphic cards as far as TV Out is conserned is the ATI models. What do you want to do with the computer? Play games, watch DVD's? etc.

They cars also support Component output, which means thay will be able to display the image on an HD TV or equivilent screen, a definite plus over the NiVidia cards.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

This system will be used for playback of mp3 audio library through Sony receiver(unsure about model) with digital audio inputs, and DivX/DVD movies. System will not be used for gaming. Does anyone know about the Xcard from Sigma? It will be released next month. It does hardware decode of MPEG 4, and has s-video and component video outs.

The 8500DV might be an overkill but it does have a cool RF remote which could be quite useful in your home theater. You can choose your mp3s from your couch instead of the computer chair...

All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 is cheeper ($199) and has the same DVD output, etc. Not as good a 3d engine, but you don't care about that. And it has the same remote. You'll also be able to throw out your VCR, as the AIW radeon 7500 will allow you to record TV programs directly onto your PC. Plus it has hardware DVD playback.
