Primary hdd shows in 3rd channel

I added a new sata hdd to my hp a1250n and it shows on my 3rd channel in my phoenix bios. I have no os on this desktop yet. I unplugged my dvd drives and hdd rebooted and bios showed nothing connected. I reconnected hdd and it still shows in 3rd channel. How can I put it in first channel?

plug it in to SATA port 0

I have 2 sata ports .. marked sata1 and sata2 ... when I plug it into 2nd port it lists as 4th channel. Are the first 2 channels for ide only? Does it matter any if I run it on the 3rd channel? Sorry for all the questions but I've been surfin the net all day trying to find answers. Thanx for your reply! I do appreciate it!

I searched for a pic because no current mb has only two SATA ports

but you are right .You have two .The IDE channels will be one and two .
It does not matter that you are plugged in to port 3

Thank you very much! I can rest easy and go ahead with with my install! I appreciate all you help (yea, I'm working with a frankensteined dinosaur .. mobo obsolete) I hope your here when I build my gaming pc in a couple months! lol
