Dell Inspiron 531s Upgrade

Recently bought this PC off a friend and I'm curious what would be the best possible graphics card that I could upgrade to. I tried to put in a radeon 4350 and had no luck getting the display to turn on and my best guess is there is a motherboard compatibility problem, any help? :D

  1. The only thing I would think that is keeping you from running the HD 4350 is the power supply which is a 250W (or it was when new). Here's what AMD has to say about the requirements for the HD4300 series cards as far as power "300 Watt or greater power supply (350 Watt for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode) is recommended" found here http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-4000/hd-4350/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-4300-system-requirements.aspx note that it is not a requirement but, since the computer is over 5 years old, the PSU likely can no longer provide a full 250W even. I would recommend replacing the PSU and trying the HD4350 again
Here is a link to where you can find your owner's manual http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/Product/inspiron-531s which has a section on replacing parts. I'm sure there are a few YouTube vids also.
    Hope it helps
