Hi everyone,
I recently purchased BFG 6600GT OC to play Battlefield 2, and I'm having
trouble even starting the game. I get the blue screen of death, and I have
to reboot the computer. Here's my spec:
P4 2.4 533 FSB
Soyo 845PE Lite Mobo
1 Gig of 2100 RAM
Windows XP pro
250 gig Maxtor HD
I am able to play Half Life 2 without a problem at highest resolution with
AA on so I know it's not a hardware issue. Any suggestions?

Have you tried reinstalling BF2 since the upgrade? Or did you install the
new card first?

I have close to the same setup. When I added the same card my system died.
I found out my power sully could'nt handle the new card. When I when up to
a 500w power supply everything was fine. Remember the card manual said you
had to have it think 350w psu to run the card.

What vid driver are you running? The BF2 install cd/dvd comes with a version that should
work, either that or get the latest and greatest from nvidia.com or http://guru3d.com/ .
Have you also run memory tests on your ram? This game is a huge memory hog, and could
reveal problems with your ram that other applications don't. You can boot your system
with various 'liveware' cd images like knoppix or ubcd4win and run system tests with the
native operating system unloaded. One other thing to check is your hard drive, as in
what percentage full is it, and does it need defragging? Whenever I have application
problems I always check the basics, like system health (hardware monitor specs shown
when you pop into the BIOS under system health or a similar menu choice), cpu fan still
working, vid card fan still working, power supply fan still working, etc. While you have
the case open clean it out with a some canned air you can get at your local Staples or
Office Depot, and blast out the dust gremlins while you verify that all the fans that
should be spinning are still doing so.
One other thing I'd check is the system logs you'll find in the Event viewer under
Computer Management (right click My Computer icon, Manage). Sometimes they can be
helpful in that they can show a pattern of errors that started occuring at a certain
date and time when you might have done something to your system that seems unrelated to
your current problem.
It sure sounds very much like a driver issue rather than hardware since you can run HL2
fine, but without more information that's about the best advice I can offer now.

I agree about it being more than likely a driver issue. If, as Ace
suggested, using the supplied driver doesn't clear it up start going
backwards with the driver versions. I'm assuming that you are running the
latest version now.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I'm currently running the latest from
nvidia, and I haven't tested my RAM, but I doubt that's the problem. I
recently defragged my hard drive, and my system has been pretty much rock
solid (no crashes or hang ups, ever). I even cleaned out my box when I
switched the videocard, however, I notice on EA's website about my card not
being one of the compatible cards with this game. If that's the case, it's
pretty silly of them to make it so GPU specific.
I've downloaded all the patches for BF 2, and it's still the same... I'm
thinking about changing out my PSU, and take up Mr. Lee's advice. I hope
that works~

I've tried all drivers, including intel and nvidia... I'm able to play HL 2
fine without a hitch with AA turned 6X @ 1200+ resolution so I have no idea
why this game won't even start...

I have just had a hell of a problem getting BF2 to work. Here is how I
finally did it:
1) Uninstall the game.
2) Uninstall the video driver from "add and remove programs"and reboot but
don't let windows install a new one.
3) Look for a folder in my case Nvidia and delete it. In my case it still
had newer and older drivers in it.I think this is the real problem having
other drivers here.
4) Install 77.30 from the BF2 disc and reboot.
5) Reinstall the game (make your you accept punkbuster and the directX 9.0c
or game will not install properly, OK to skip gamespy if you already have
it) .
After that I was good to go.
6) Install the patch. As yet I have not updated the video driver just in
case it stops again.
I had previously had the game running and had updated the video driver and
it still worked but as soon as I put in the patch it stopped working untill
I did the above.
I hope this helps.
Is anybody using a later driver than 77.30 with the patch installed?
