HAPPY NEW YEAR<

TECH LEVEL: Noob to Moderate

SYSTEM: Built by me on a budget.

AMD 965 3.40ghz I let the mobo overclock it to 3.6 ( NEW TO THAT)
MB ASUS M4A87TD
PS SEASONIC 620WATX 12V
RAM-2 4 gig sticks of G.skill ripjaw
Hd 7870 xfx DD

Games played BF3 and SKYRIM

About a month ago I was running a hd5770 on a 22"samsung, the monitor failed so I bought a 24 samsung 60ghz 1080p and then my 5770 was no good anymore :( I bought the 7870 and Im kinda bummed atm.

Fresh install, new beta driver, after failing with the 12.10

Bf3 35-60 fps on high or med, makes no difference and the card will run at 40-60%... If i put it on Ultra the frames stay at 35-60 fps and the gpu usage goes up to 98% but does not run well enough to play well. I have not tried low.. The swings are to much though and not floating around 60 enough even at medium settings. I have bumped that card a little in msi afterburner but it does not help frames just lowers the gpu usage a little more. Skyrim runs on Highest at 50%gpu, It skips/ studders at times, but I think that is mostly skyrim.

I can buy parts and but together a budge machine, But i know nothing about overclock ect. I came to the bros for advice. Everything was fine before my 22" monitor crapped out SIGH :pt1cable:

You dont really need a OC on your CPU if there isnt a Xfire/SLI setup involved. See what your CPU usage is. When I play bf3 and skyrim I'm using the same as you are about 40-50% usage so imo thats normal, but I also dont have the same specs as you. I would check your CPU usage while in game.

Hi CasPeRR! Thank you for getting back to me. I have the windows cpu gadget and it says 90% when I minamize the game then it drops down to 10ish. I download cpu core just now, I cant see how to monitor in game on that either but when I minimize the game I see 100% 95% 97% 94%. Cpu working very hard :/ ANy ideas sorry to bother you!

To be running at 90% on both cpu and gpu, for some reason just doesnt seem right to me. Again that could just be that I dont have the same specs, but I had a 965 as well with a 460 Ti, 560 Ti, and a 660 Ti and I never really go above 40-50% on both of them. Try this, when I had the 965 I had a problem with it throttling down in core speed whenever I was playing games. Download CPU-Z and watch and see what your core clock is.
