Someone will know the answer to this.
I just started upgrading a microATX HP mini-tower and only realised how small it was when I tried to put the recommended 300W power supply in (to drive an NV7M mobo)
It collides with the CD drive by about an inch and I would have to enlarge the hole on the back plate - don't fancy that approach very much. - the HP P/S was 100w and smaller in all 3 dimensions.

So there appears to be 2 solutions
1. Get a new case
2. Get a smaller power supply that would match the power requirements more closely.

Has anyone done solution 2 and had success?

I recently looked at a HP in the mini-case. It was a fairly nice system with an Athlon XP 1600 and 512 MB. The powersupply was a 200 watt job, below the 300 watt minimum recommended.

Also, I noticed a bunch of Flex/Slim PC's out there that come with 145W supplies like the <A HREF="http://www.msicomputer.com/product/netpc/Slim6218.htm" target="_new"> MSI HERA </A> PC.

I then went back to AMD's website and, under <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_869_1039^4038|48_SFX,00.html" target="_new">powersupplies</A>, there are some 180watt and 200 watt supplies on there (mainly the small ones)

If you can't fit a normal size powersupply in there, Sparkle makes a smaller than ATX size powersupply that might fit and might work. As always though, you have to try it at your own risk.

Thanks,
I'll pop back over to Fry's with a tape measure in hand, open up a few brand name PC and try to get a concensus on what they are doing. Perhaps even do some basic math to see what the power loading really is.

You might want to look at that Ford over on http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Car [...] w_gt40.xml
They are trying to get them to bring back the GT40, in new form.. bit pricey though... and it's not a GM!-)
