Problems with HDMI to Component PS3

The past few days. I've been trying to switch my PS3 from HDMI to Component. This is because I recently got the Hauppuage HD PVR 2: Gaming Edition, and it only records in component. I know what you're going to say; hold down the button and reset the video. But I still get a black screen! Someone please help me figure this out. I've tried everything; restoring to default settings, turning the power surge on and off, unplugging everything and plugging it back in firmly... PLEASE HELP!
