I helped my buddy put together his first rig, and it's been almost completely smooth sailing. We installed an Evga gtx 660 on his Asus P8B75-V ATX LGA1155, and everything ran great. Windows Score for graphics was 7.6.
A week later we opened FRAPS and launched multiple games, and his framerate was down from 60 fps to about 12. His Windows Score is now a 7.2. The GPU seems to be running. It makes me think that the motherboard is using the integrated graphics instead of the card?
It might be of worth to note that he's also had problems making a clean reboot during Windows updates since day one. The computer will often freeze at the Windows Loading screen indefinitely, forcing us to manually reboot until it goes through. I've reinstalled windows on the drive, and he even bought an ssd because we were afraid it was a crappy drive. This makes me suspicious that we might have a faulty motherboard, but I have little experience troubleshooting hardware problems.
As a last note,
-All drivers are up to date
-I didn't post the rest of the build because I wasn't sure if it was relevant. Will post if asked
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an easy fix before I call Evga and Asus for new products. Thanks!
