Far cry 3 lagging on ATI Radeon HD 5450

I recently tried playing Far Cry 3 on my computer and it starts out all good and fine. Then it gets to the first chapter, and it starts lagging majorly. It would seem like its 5 fps when it starts lagging. My graphics card is Pretty good i guess, its kinda out dated. It runs 2 monitors perfectly fine. Can you please tell me what i can do to make it not lag on far cry 3? I run most games 50fps without lag at all.

The 5450 is outdated honestly and i suggest turning down ALOT of settings or upgrade. Far cry 3 isnt a joke on gpus either but still is a great game

Far Cry 3 is very GPU intensive, 5450 is a low end card that won't cut it. Several APUs has better integrated graphics than that.

What games are you running 50fps?

It's not just that the 5450 is aging, it's that it was not a real gaming card even when it was brand new. You need to upgrade if you want smooth gaming.

Sorry to burst your bubble but your card isn't pretty good. In fact, it never was (when it comes to gaming at least).

Are you kidding ?...buy a much better card, you said, you get 50 fps on other games...do you play at 640x480 ?

Cause even in cod 4 it doesn't reach 30 fps...

I remember when i ran skyrim on a ati 5450 i5 2500k. That *** didnt go so well at all. Went to a 460 gotten 40-50 on high settings now getting 60 frames with a 660ti on high settings..Most def he needs to upgrade

I'm not trolling. I played WoW and Cod waw and Cod 4 on this graphics card and they ran like 40 - 45 normally. And i used to play runescape.. which doesn't say much but it has better graphics now.

Pick up a Radeon HD 7750 if you don't have a strong PSU and you'll be blown away at the performance improvement / quality levels over the 5450.

I had a 4350 in my media center and it while slower then a 5450 I can say without a doubt it can not game worth a crap.

You would have to be playing some of the lowest settings/screen resolution in the world to get 40-50 on anything modern.

http://www.techspot.com/review/244-ati-radeon-hd-5450/p...

On the plus side. The card handles video playback just fine.

If you want a power powered card to play some games with reduced details, look to the 7770 and GTX 650 ti cards(400 watt power supply or greater recommended). They are not top end my any means, but a MASSIVE upgrade from a 5450.

You tell us how much you can spend and importantly, what kind of power supply you have(Combined 12 volt current is important on multi-rail power supplies. It is not always just and add them up thing. many times it should be its own rating.).

Power supply rating example image.

We can then see what you can get.

Well probably 100 - 120$ max. I don't know what my power supply is, it's not a home built computer.

Edit:

Specs:

1tb Hdd

Give me a minute and i'll check the power supply.

Please power down and remove the side panel and have a look.

I am thinking maybe 7750(as another member mentioned) in the price range. That card takes very little power.

Those are RIDICULOUSLY easy games to max out. They're old and designed to have maximum compatibility - most WoW players, for example, are using integrated graphics on a prebuilt machine.

Far Cry 3 is the complete opposite - it was designed, from the start, to be a computer-meter, much like the original Crysis was. It fell short of that goal, but you still need a LOT more horsepower if you want to see playable framerates. And don't even think about ultra unless you drop $400 on a video card.

300w will only get you a 7750 1GB DDR5...buy it online, you only need to put the card in the pcie slot, and that's it...
Or swap the psu and gfx card if your budget allows it.
Get a 450-500w psu and a 7850/660 gtx.

Bear in mind a normal ATX power supply won't work in that case due to the form factor.

Unless Dell has radically changed their policy opening the system does not void the warranty. In fact opening the system is kinda a requirement to properly clean it. Upgrading the video card also will not void the warranty on the rest of the hardware unless the damage is caused by the customer during the upgrade or the 3rd party part causes the damage. Atleast that used to be the policy, Its been awhile since I have dealt with them on a desktop.

The 250w psu in the 580s will not run the 7770. A 7750 is the best option for your PSU. Also even though Dell sells that card its not Dell branded and would still be considered 3rd party. Here's a 7750 from newegg

I have a 300v psu. and the dell reps checked to see if fits already.

Do not get the 7770, only the 7750...for a crappy 300w psu, the 7770 needs a pcie 6 pin connector, with the 7750 you'll be cutting close to the limit power, that psu is at the best a 200w psu.
Also it's easy to swap the cards, if you need a guide(i don't see why) : http://www.wikihow.com/Change-a-Graphics-Card

Get a 7750 1GB DDR5.

We need more information man, we want to help you but you seem really worried about voiding warranty or something. We need to know if you have a SLIM or the NORMAL version of the Dell PC. After we know that we need to know what specs your power supply is. Open up your PC and there should be cables coming from one "box" thing, there should be a label on it somewhere, look for something that says 12V and tell us how many Amps are on it. Example 12v 35A
