Hi i am looking to build a pc/server for basic pc needs and be able to store movies on a network. Movie files are usually avi or mp4. my current tv's and blue ray plays play avi and mp4. I don't believe anything will be transcoding. I would like to able to stream movies to up to 4 tvs at the same time. I am currently using wifi to stream movies but only one tv at a time is able to watch a movie. I will be installing Cat5e Ethernet cable through my home to each tv.

So would my build be acquit for my home server? will all components compatible with each other?

Thank you TheBigTroll for your replay.

what is the difference between the i3 2125 and the i3 2120 and the i3-3220 besides the integrated graphics beside the $30 difference between the i3-2125 and the 2120 & 3220?

i3 2125 has Intel HD Graphics 3000 and the i3 2120 has Intel HD Graphics 2000 and the i3-3220 has Intel HD Graphics 2500? the i3 2120 and the i3-3220 are pretty much the same price.

I was considering going with the i5 3570k, but i was trying to save some $$.
I also considered the MSI Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt LGA 1155 because i plan on upgreading in the future and it comes with free 8 gig ram. I guess i could go with the ASRock H77M LGA and upgrade the processor to a i5-3570k.. what you think?

I do plan on using network switch.

difference between the 2125 and 2120 is the graphics. not much of a deal if you arent playing games using onboard.

the 3220 is faster than both the 2120 in terms of graphics and CPu speed

if its a streaming build, there is no reason to get a i5 unless you play games

the z77 g45 is pretty bad. ontop of that, you arent going to use thunderbolt anytime soon

remove the video card. the onboard performs better

id seriously upgrade the nic to a intel one. more reliable, faster, and is much more dependable

dvd drive is cheaper

Do you have a recommendation on a network switch?

Do you think the i3 will be enough CPU if if the kids are watching movie through the network and i am converting movies or working on the pc?

Does anyone see any compatibility issues with the parts i have chosen?

I would like to order my parts today if possible so a quick answer would be nice.

Thanks.

In your opinion a SSD hard drive need. I have read many, many people suggesting it needed for bast boot up? People prefer to load software on this drive and use the other drives as storage. what is your thoughts, experience on SSD hard drives?

well for you this is a streaming pc so its not really needed since you plan on turning it on for most of the day.

in my opinion, a SSD is the ultimate thing that you can get for your computer. if windows 7 takes 40 seconds to boot on a hard drive, it takes 20 seconds on a SSD and you can start firing apps right away. but they do cost a lot and their benefits will vary according to your use.
