Is there a 1.02 patch? Whenever I supposedly download it it says "this will
install the 1.01 patch"
What gives?

Presuming you got it from a reputable source, it's the 1.02 patch. It
misidentifies itself as the 1.01 patch.

That's because the patch went through EA's "quality assurance" process.

How can they screw up basic stuff like weapons assignment and options menus?

The "1.01 patch" might mean it is a patch FOR the 1.01 verson (bringing it
to a ... umm ... new, unnamed version)
Sort of, "If you have the 1.01 version, then this patch is for you!"
Maybe everything we get from these people is filtered by artists ( hence the
space-wasting menu screens, the creative patch-naming, etc)
But ...maybe they are just like Rain Man ...

Into the EA Games offices they shuffle..shoes untied ... pants up to their
armpits ...

"'course I don't have my underwear ... I'm definately not wearing my
underwear... underwear ... 'course they're in the pocket of my jacket ..
here." - Rain Man

.... down the halls towards their cubicles, eyes glued to some bluetooth
device until they reach the safety of their computer screens, where they
churn out their daily chunk of code that runs perfectly ... as long as it is
isolated.
Interaction with other code ? Interaction with other code ..created by ...
other ... humans?

"Uh-uh.....uh ..uh-oh, Vern... V-E-R-N .. 'course these people are gonna be
here all day, Vern ... ..This is an unannounced visit, Vern ... This..this
is ..this is definately not a weekend visit , Vern .... uh-oh..Vern ...
this is definately an unannounced visit , Vern" - Rain Man

They can tell you how many pixels make up 95% of the objects in the game but
aren't sure how many fingers are on the average human hand (or how many tits
the average female has for that matter).

The EA company picnic ?
200 hotdog buns soft and warm (with 200 hamburgers on the grills) ... the
volleyball net strung to the perfect NM of tension (3 feet off the ground)
.... They have linked to the home office and recieved the plot for the
sunlight's path through the trees for the duration of the event and
calculated picnic table placement to avoid the deadly radiation (another 20
minutes of manual labor and all the tables will be safely in the lake).
At least there is the beer ... unfortunately all the ice had to be
reallocated (those laptops require a lot of cooling in the summer heat).
Well, bugs are to be expected.

"'Course I'm gonna be here a long time .... a very long time ... I'm gone
for good.. I'm gone for good..from my home." -Rain Man
