When I run ad-aware to get rid of scumware, it says there's 10 programs running in the background(fresh from a restart), I've dissabled everything I'm sure about in msconfig from the run menu , but I'm not sure about what else I can take out, to minimize what's running in the back-ground. Thanks
Dave

Your pc will still work with NO ticks, however, I'd leave systray, scanreg, and any AV.firewall. Also check your start folder for things loading from there

If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?

All I have running is zone-alarm and pop-up killer, from the msconfig nothing I know of starts off the start menu.
but it still says 12 things running. 12 - zone, pop, and a true vector log(from zone alarm)still leaves 9 how can I find out what this is, or do they start with windows.I also
found when I boot up and check system monitor that it takes
192mg of ram right off the start(out of 512)I always assumed
that this was because of the high ram I have so it dosen't
use any swap file(less than 10meg at all times)is this correct. Thanks

hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and it will bring up the close program box, showing everything that is running, just highlight and press enter to close the programs.

Just shows what I know is running. So I'll assume that these
9 windows must need.
